The Food Standards Agency backed him up by saying that there is no nutritional difference between organic food and intensively reared products. Peter Kendall, president of the National Farmers Union, also added that he had seen "no evidence" to prove that organic food is healthier.

Surely, the public can see this is another attempt by the food profiteers to confuse people about what is the correct and healthy way to eat. It does not take a huge amount of intelligence to understand that a food which has been sprayed with various toxic chemicals, and grown in nutrient depleted soil will not be equally good to health as a food which is grown as nature intended. You do not contaminate your apples with fly spray and then give them to your kids - the idea is abhorrent - but eating "intensively reared" foods is doing exactly the same thing.

There are so many studies showing the higher nutrient levels of organic foods,
http://persianoad.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/organic-foods-have-more-nutrients/
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7067100.stm
and thats without taking into account the unknown effects on health of combinations of pesticides, fertilisers, antibiotics, hormones and other chemicals. However, we find when certain individuals have a view they want to promote, they can always find the one study which appears to validate their opinion - and then they have that information publicised on the National News as the "Truth Of The Matter". Whether this study was correctly carried out and the research results were accurate does not appear to be of concern.

It surprises me that our Environment Secretary does not see any problem with the use of toxic chemicals and he is encouraging us to keep putting these chemicals out there. Our Food Standards Agency, the government body which tells us which foods are safe to eat, surprisingly also appears to agree that having chemicals in our food has no negative effect upon our health. But then, this Government body also tells us that it is safe to have a daily level of the sweetener, aspartame, in the diet - despite research pointing to its carcinogenic effects, effects upon mental health and despite the fact that it is already banned in some countries. It is almost as if there is a vested interest. Perhaps with Peter Kendall, a promoter of the use of chemical pesticides, it is his way of getting back at the Soil Association, after they sucessfully managed to get the pesticide aldicarb banned, despite Kendalls protestations that there was no danger to using it.
http://92.52.112.178/web/sa/saweb.nsf/848d689047cb466780256a6b00298980/43647ca91a6d29038025729c00549a1d?OpenDocument
